This week, students should continue practicing their typing skills on the website TypingClub. Students have been practicing in class. Please practice your typing skills at least twice a week. Remember to type by sitting with proper posture and with both hands on the home-row keys. I will be checking your progress weekly.
All students must go on Spelling City at least twice a week to practice the Spelling and Vocabulary words.
Parents: Please sign and return all quizzes/assessments that are sent home.
Reading
The following topics will be covered in Reading this week:
-Reading the extended section of Wonder titled, "Julian's Chapter" by R.J. Palacio
-Reading persuasive texts.
-Identifying claims in persuasive texts.
-Finding evidence to support claims found in persuasive texts.
-Exploring nonfiction text structures.
-Answering questions about informational texts.
-Taking notes while watching informational video clips.
*Remember to read at home, at least 4 nights a week, and record your reading on your Reading Log. Please try to read some Nonfiction texts at home :)
Writing
The following topics will be covered in Writing this week:
-Exploring various writing prompts.
-Informational writing.
-Analyzing characters.
-What to include in narrative writing (description, dialogue, figurative language).
Word Study
The following topics will be covered in Word Study this week:
-Parts of Speech Review (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections).
-Figurative Language Review (simile, metaphor, idiom, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, personification, alliteration).
Science
The following topics will be covered in Science this week, as we begin our unit on Chemistry:
-Measuring mass and matter.
-Exploring density.
-The structure of matter (solid, liquid, gas).
-Changes of state (ex. solid to liquid).
