Scholastic Book Orders are due by Friday, 10/31. You can find ordering information under the Scholastic Information Tab.
All students must go on Spelling City at least twice a week to practice the Spelling and Vocabulary words.
Book Blurbs are due every Friday.
Parents: Please sign and return all quizzes/assessments that are sent home.
Reading
The following topics will be covered in Reading this week:
-Continuing with our class read aloud, Wonder by RJ Palacio. Students can't wait to read this book each day!
-Marking Up The Text (thinking about what we read).
-Asking questions before, during, and after reading.
-Asking "Thick" Questions (Ex. What would happen if...? What caused...?).
-Reviewing the RACE strategy for answering open-ended questions.
R - Restate the question in a creative way.
A - Answer the question.
C - Cite evidence from the text.
E - Extend your answer with a thought, opinion, or connection.
*Remember to read at home, at least 4 nights a week, and record your reading on your Reading Log.
Writing
The following topics will be covered in Writing this week a we finish our Personal Narratives:
-Publishing our Personal Narratives, using our chrome books.
-Inserting images into our Personal Narratives.
Word Study
The following topics will be covered in Word Study this week:
-Spelling & Vocabulary List #5 (Rule: Long I Words)
-Prepositions (Ex. from, into, on, after, before, under, etc.)
-Introduction to adverbs.
*Students: Please go on Spelling City at least 2 times a week to practice your words.
*Students will have 20 words on their Spelling & Vocabulary list. The first 10 words focus on the spelling rule, and the second 10 words are vocabulary words. Throughout the week, students will need to complete spelling and vocabulary activities in their notebook, along with activities on the website Spelling City. An assessment covering all 20 words will be given on Friday. The assessment counts for 2 grades: 1 for Spelling, and 1 for Vocabulary.
Science
The following topics will be covered in Science this week:
-Preparing for the Weather Unit Assessment.
-Reviewing the pros and cons of wind energy.
-Weather Unit Assessment is on Wednesday, 10/29/14.
-We will also visit the Discovery Lab this week.
