Many Scholastic Book Orders will be sent home this week. If you would like to order books, please do so by Friday, 12/4. Ordering books online is very easy. Just click the Scholastic Information Tab on the left. Our class code for ordering is: H4TVQ
This week, students should continue practicing their typing skills on the website TypingClub. Students have been practicing in class. Please practice your typing skills at least twice a week. Remember to type by sitting with proper posture and with both hands on the home-row keys. I will be checking your progress weekly.
All students must go on Spelling City at least twice a week to practice the Spelling and Vocabulary words.
Parents: Please sign and return all quizzes/assessments that are sent home.
Reading
The following topics will be covered in Reading this week:
-Finishing Wonder, by R.J. Palacio.
-Focusing on the comprehension strategy: Summarizing.
-Practice with summarizing various passages.
-Using the SWBST strategy (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then).
-Determining Author's Purpose (Remember it's as easy as PIE! (Persuade, Inform, Entertain).
*Remember to read at home, at least 4 nights a week, and record your reading on your Reading Log.
Writing
The following topics will be covered in Writing this week:
-Publishing our paragraphs from last week.
-Looking at sample Personal Essays.
-Writing "long and strong" about our favorite season.
-Writing a strong introduction for our personal essay.
-What should be included in support paragraphs.
Word Study
The following topics will be covered in Word Study this week:
-Spelling & Vocabulary List #8 (Rule: R-Controlled Vowel Words).
-Adjectives (words that describe nouns).
Science
The following topics will be covered in Science this week:
-Working on our Weather Research Projects.
-Weather Project Research Notes are due: Tuesday, 12/1/14.
-Weather Google Presentation is due: Monday, 12/7/14.
-A visit to the Discovery Lab to complete a lab about Hurricanes.
