- The Weather Unit Assessment is on Thursday, 10/29/15. We will be reviewing in class all week, but please remember to use your Study Plan and review for the Assessment at home each night as well.
- Just a reminder that on Friday, 10/30 lunch will be from 12:00 to 12:52 for all students.
- 5th Grade Students who are going home for lunch will be dismissed at the same entrance where they enter each morning. Students should return to school at 12:52.
- The Cherry Halloween Parade will take place at 1:30 on Friday, 10/30.
- There is no school for students on the following dates, 11/3/15, 11/5/15, and 11/6/15.
- Parents: Please sign all assessments and quizzes that are sent home.
The following topics will be covered in Reading this week:
-Continuing with our class read aloud, Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Students can't wait to read this book each day!
-Close Reading.
-Marking Up the Text.
-Using symbols and words to Mark Up a Text.
-Asking questions before, during, and after reading.
*Remember to read at home, at least 4 nights a week, and record your reading on your Reading Log. Also, make sure to complete 2 Reading Responses in at least 5 sentences or more. Your Reading Log counts as a quiz grade!
Writing
The following topics will be covered in Writing this week:
-Continuing to practice the strategy of "Show, don't Tell". Ex. Happy - Jumping up and down, huge smile on his face, etc. In class last week, we completed a fun "Show, don't Tell" activity. Students seemed to really enjoy practicing and learning more about this strategy.
-Including Figurative Language in our Personal Narratives (Simile, Personification, Hyperbole, Alliteration).
Word Study
The following topics will be covered in Word Study this week:
-Spelling & Vocabulary List #5 (Rule: Long O Words)
-Common & Proper Nouns.
*Students: Please go on Spelling City at least 2 times a week to practice your words.
*Students will have 20 words on their Spelling & Vocabulary list. The first 10 words focus on the spelling rule, and the second 10 words are vocabulary words. Throughout the week, students will need to complete spelling and vocabulary activities in their notebook, along with activities on the website Spelling City. An assessment covering all 20 words will be given on Friday. The assessment counts for 2 grades: 1 for Spelling, and 1 for Vocabulary.
Science
The following topics will be covered in Science this week:
-Water Cycle vocabulary.
-Writing an essay about the pros and cons of wind energy.
-Weather Unit Review.
