Many Scholastic Book Orders were sent home last week. If you would like to order books, please do so by Friday, 12/5. Ordering books online is very easy. Just click the Scholastic Information Tab on the left. Our class code for ordering is: H4TVQ
This week, students should continue practicing their typing skills on the website TypingClub. Students have been practicing in class. Please practice your typing skills at least twice a week. Remember to type by sitting with proper posture and with both hands on the home-row keys. I will be checking your progress weekly.
All students must go on Spelling City at least twice a week to practice the Spelling and Vocabulary words.
Parents: Please sign and return all quizzes/assessments that are sent home.
Reading
The following topics will be covered in Reading this week:
-Finishing Wonder, by R.J. Palacio.
-Introduction to our new unit: Characters.
-What can we find out about characters? (relationships, personality traits, growth/changes, struggles, physical character traits)
-Determining personality traits and physical traits for the characters we are reading about.
-Ranking character traits for our characters.
*Remember to read at home, at least 4 nights a week, and record your reading on your Reading Log.
Writing
The following topics will be covered in Writing this week:
-Writing "long and strong" about our favorite season.
-Writing a strong introduction for our personal essay.
-What should be included in support paragraphs.
-Including transition words and phrases in our writing.
Word Study
The following topics will be covered in Word Study this week:
-Spelling & Vocabulary List #8 (Rule: R-Controlled Vowel Words)
-Pronouns (words that take the place of nouns - ex. he, she, it, they)
-Articles (a, an, the)
